Detective Jane Mugo Recounts What Raila told her after His 200k Gas Cylinders Were Stolen

Private detective Jane Mugoh has opened up about her past encounter with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, revealing a personal message he shared with her after she helped recover part of his stolen property.

Speaking to a local media house Mugoh recounted being hired years ago by the Odinga family to investigate a major theft involving more than 200 gas cylinders belonging to Raila’s business.

The family, frustrated with the slow police investigations, reportedly turned to Mugoh after receiving a recommendation from the late Fidel Odinga.

According to the detective, the Odinga family met her at the newly opened Kempinski Hotel in Westlands, where they paid her in cash and trusted her entirely without a written contract.

She quickly began the investigation and eventually uncovered the mastermind behind the theft someone shockingly related to the Odinga family.

Mugoh said Raila’s reaction to the revelation left a lasting impression on her. Despite the huge financial loss, the veteran politician chose to forgive the culprit instead of pursuing legal action.

Later, he invited Mugoh to his Parklands office, accompanied by Fidel and Raila Junior, to thank her personally.

Raila told me, ‘If Kenya had 20 women like you, the country would be better in security.’ That statement changed my career and my confidence, Mugoh recalled.

The detective added that she later handled other sensitive cases for the family, including recovering a stolen ring belonging to Fidel’s wife.

Following Raila’s death in October, Mugoh expressed deep sorrow, describing him as a leader who believed in justice, forgiveness, and empowering women.

She disclosed plans to visit Raila’s grave in Bondo to pay her final respects, saying his encouragement still inspires her investigative work today.
