"It Hurts To See Uhuru Doing To Matiang'i What He Never Did To Raila" Raila's Ally Slams Uhuru

Political activist Nuru Okanga has voiced his frustration following former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent endorsement of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, saying the move has left many loyal supporters of the late Raila Odinga deeply hurt.

Speaking during a community meeting in Nairobi on Friday, Okanga said it was painful to watch Uhuru openly throw his weight behind Matiang’i, just months after mourning the passing of Raila.

He accused the former Head of State of showing selective loyalty, arguing that Raila stood by Uhuru during his most difficult political years.

“It breaks my heart to see Uhuru treat Matiang’i with the warmth and respect he denied Baba when he was alive,” Okanga said.

“Raila gave his all for the handshake and unity, yet when he needed real friendship, he stood alone.”

Okanga further claimed that Uhuru’s public show of support for Matiang’i was not just political but also a sign of shifting alliances that disregard the sacrifices Raila made for the country’s stability.

He questioned whether Uhuru’s endorsement was a reflection of gratitude or political convenience.

“Matiang’i is a capable man, but Uhuru should remember who walked with him when things were tough,” Okanga added.

His remarks have stirred conversations within the opposition, with some agreeing that Uhuru’s latest move could alienate Raila’s loyal base.

Others, however, argue that politics evolves and leaders have the right to support whoever they believe can advance their legacy.

Still, Okanga’s emotional response underscores the lingering feelings of betrayal and loss among Raila’s followers, who continue to see him as a symbol of struggle and sacrifice in Kenya’s political history.
