The Deputy Leader of the Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP), Cleophas Malala, has reaffirmed that Rigathi Gachagua’s journey to seek the presidency is still alive and firmly on track.
Speaking during an exclusive interview on a local TV station on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Malala made it clear that Gachagua remains the official presidential flagbearer of the DCP as the country heads toward the 2027 General Election.
Malala explained that while Gachagua holds this position in the party, the wider opposition alliance will eventually sit down and agree on who will carry the joint ticket against President William Ruto.
He emphasized that unity within the opposition is still a priority, and discussions will be held to decide the most suitable candidate who can represent the coalition.
At the same time, Malala dismissed rumours that the DCP had shifted its earlier commitments in Malava.
He assured supporters that nothing has changed regarding their stand and that the party continues to support Seth Panyako fully.
“Hapa Malava hatujaondokea mtu yeyote, bado tunasupport Seth Panyako,” he said, stressing that the party has not abandoned anyone.
Malala further clarified DCP’s approach to the 2027 race. He noted that although political negotiations often involve give-and-take strategies, that does not mean Gachagua has stepped down or changed his ambitions.
“Hatuwezi sema kwa sababu ya ile strategy yetu ya give and take, hatuwezi sema Gachagua haendi kusimama urais,” he stated.
He went on to firmly restate the party’s position, saying, “Mimi kama naibu kiranja wa DCP, the official stand ya DCP ni kwamba Rigathi Gachagua is our presidential candidate as DCP.”
