A wave of speculation surrounding the health of ODM Party Leader Dr. Oburu Oginga has finally been put to rest after his family confirmed that the veteran politician is in good health despite travelling to Dubai earlier this week.
Dr. Oburu, 82, left the country for what his relatives describe as a “brief sabbatical” following an intense and emotionally taxing political schedule.
Reports circulating on social media had suggested that the seasoned politician was unwell, sparking concerns among his supporters.
However, in an exclusive clarification, his son and aide, Elijah Oburu, dismissed the rumours as misleading and unfounded.
“It’s true he travelled, but he is not unwell. I wouldn’t mislead you. He simply took time off after weeks of demanding activities,” Elijah told the media, assuring the public that the Siaya Senator is in stable condition.
Dr. Oburu himself appeared to reinforce the message of reassurance on Friday through his social media page, posting:
“Feeling grateful for good health and high spirits. Taking a short sabbatical to recollect, recharge, and reset.”
The message was accompanied by a calm photograph from Dubai, further dispelling fears of illness.
The senator’s decision to take a break follows back-to-back engagements that saw him traverse the country for political meetings, rallies, and the four-day ODM@20 anniversary celebrations held in Mombasa between November 13 and 16.
The festivities brought together party leaders from across the country and included closed-door strategy sessions, public functions, and youth leadership forums many of which Dr. Oburu actively led.
Barely days after the celebrations, on November 19, Dr. Oburu was in Kasipul for ODM’s campaigns ahead of the upcoming by-election.
He addressed rallies, met grassroots leaders, and pushed for youth inclusion in party leadership work that those close to him say left little room for rest.
Party insiders reveal that the overwhelming workload contributed to his decision to take a brief pause to rejuvenate. His family maintains that the break is temporary and that Dr. Oburu will resume his duties after resting.
Supporters have welcomed the clarification, expressing relief that the veteran leader remains in good health and high spirits.
