Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka strongly criticized President William Ruto’s recent State of the Nation address, claiming it ignored key issues such as respect for the Constitution and the rule of law.
He spoke at a rally in Lunyinya, Malava, on Friday, November 21, 2025, during a united opposition gathering in Western Kenya.
Kalonzo accused the President of staying silent while state officers actively campaigned in ongoing by-elections, undermining democratic principles.
He also pointed out that the President of the Law Society of Kenya, Faith Odhiambo, resigned from Ruto’s Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Demonstrations and Public Protests because of concerns over the President’s disregard for legal norms.
The Wiper leader further claimed that President Ruto misled Kenyans regarding the funding of development projects announced in Parliament.
Kalonzo cited the High Grand Falls Hydroelectric Power Station, which was agreed to be funded by European partners but is now presented by Ruto as a private-public partnership project.
He said this reflects a broader pattern of misrepresentation that has frustrated citizens.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale also criticized the President for ignoring education challenges.
He highlighted that the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is not effectively implemented across the country, leaving schools and learners struggling.
Kalonzo and other opposition leaders expressed concern over the presence of President Ruto’s Personal Assistant, Farouk Kibet, campaigning in Malava for UDA candidate David Ndakwa.
They argued this demonstrated misuse of official positions in favor of political campaigns.
During the rally, Kalonzo urged residents to support DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako, claiming a victory in Malava would show the strength and unity of the opposition.
He also praised the experience of opposition leaders, asserting they have the capability to lead the country effectively.
Prominent figures attending the rally included Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa, and DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala.
The gathering highlighted the opposition’s efforts to consolidate support in the Western region ahead of upcoming elections.
The event saw lively exchanges among leaders, including former Interior CS Fred Matiangi and Cleophas Malala, who engaged in discussions on strategies for opposition coordination.
The rally underscored the tension between the ruling government and opposition forces as Kenya approaches critical electoral contests.
