The incident, which occurred late Sunday night near Mutonya area, has since gone viral, sparking shock, admiration, and heated debate across social media.
According to eyewitnesses, the man—whose identity remains undisclosed—was walking home from work when a motorcycle carrying the suspects pulled up beside him.
The thugs, armed with crude weapons, attempted to corner him and demand his belongings.
Instead of complying, the man quickly scanned his surroundings, spotted a pile of construction stones nearby, and instantly switched into defense mode.
The CCTV clip shows the thugs advancing aggressively, expecting an easy target. But the man grabbed a stone and hurled it with pinpoint accuracy, hitting one of the attackers squarely in the chest.
Startled, the remaining two hesitated. Seizing the moment, he picked up more stones, launching them rapidly as the thugs retreated in confusion.
Within seconds, the attackers made a chaotic escape on their motorcycle, leaving the scene empty—and social media full.
By Monday morning, the footage had spread across TikTok, X, and WhatsApp groups, with many praising the man’s quick thinking and fearless spirit.
Others, however, warned that while the incident shows admirable bravery, confronting armed criminals can be extremely risky.
Local authorities have since acknowledged the video, noting that such cases highlight both the growing insecurity in certain pockets of Ruiru and the need for increased patrols at night.
Police say they are reviewing the footage to identify the suspects.
Meanwhile, Kenyans online have crowned the unknown hero “the Stone Sniper of Ruiru,” celebrating him for turning everyday rubble into a shield of survival.
